The Banknote and Its Design Tell a Story

A banknote is like a graphic representation of a country in miniature. The design often reflects the country’s unique features. In addition to portraits of the nation’s founding father Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the late President Chiang Kai-shek, Taiwanese banknotes currently in circulation also feature designs inspired by local culture and nature—historical buildings, indigenous flora and fauna, and majestic mountains. Illustrations of nature also serve to raise people’s awareness of the importance of ecological conservation.
