Banknotes in Circulation

According to Article 13 of “the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Act”, circulating banknotes and coins are those notes and coins issued by the Central Bank and still in use. They are legal tender within the boundaries of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The current series of banknotes (five denominations in total) have special built-in security features to prevent counterfeiting. In addition to practical considerations, special attention is paid to the images used in banknote design and what they represent. The images chosen for the current series present local scenes and indigenous fauna in order to reflect the country’s historical heritage and hopes for the future.
