Is it illegal to use images from New Taiwan dollar currency in commercial advertisements or products?

The New Taiwan dollar (including its format and image) is designed and issued by the Central Bank in accordance with Article 15, Paragraph 2, of “the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Act” and with approval from the Executive Yuan. All formats and images are protected by copyright. In addition, according to Article 78 of the “Social Order Maintenance Act”, banknotes currently in circulation may not be photocopied, enlarged or reduced for distribution or sale, nor may replicas of banknotes and coins currently in circulation be produced, distributed or sold. Offenders will be fined up to NT$15,000. Therefore, any use of New Taiwan dollar images in commercial advertisements or products may infringe the Central Bank’s copyright and violate the “Social Order Maintenance Act”.
